ViaEndlessly checking tweets, micro-stagemanaging every public appearance, generalising the bizarre obsessions of the Westminster village: we don't have to do this any more. Lose the fantasy that most of the population is sitting there earnestly watching PMQs and judiciously scoring the combatants' performances. We don't have to impress the corporate elite anymore, overconforming like poor kids with a scholarship to private school.
Patience, fortitude, steady purposiveness are the key virtues now. Let them run around in a frenzy while we start the slow but immediately rewarding work of resocialising the UK's boring dystopia

For Muslims living in the West the future lies not in the tinkering of theology but in the production of culture. But how is this process of cultural relevancy to take place? Is it taking place? What are its discernible forms? What are the challenges that need to be surmounted before a genuine cultural expression takes root? And what and who is to define what is 'genuine'? To that extent is cultural output in Islamic civilisation a utilitarian exercise? In the global village of specialised economies and shared global tastes where does the process of being consumers stop and that of being producers of culture begin? What needs to be done to convert Western society to associate Islam with the beauty of the Taj Mahal and the Majesty of the Dome of the Rock rather than with the blasted Twin Towers of New York or the shattered Buddhist statues in Afghanistan? Can we develop an agenda of cultural do's that would harness the energy of our young people -- to teach them that singing, creating, beautifying and being joyous are all part of the Islamic agenda?

FILTH!
No, of course not. He is simply — and quite deliberately — using Faragian rhetoric to further poison the political culture, to sow division, hatred and fear among the electorate. Like the Tea Party in America, his Tories have nothing to offer but fear and demonization of all those who disagree with them or present the slightest alternative to their extremist cult of austerity and neoliberalism.
But oh, what a grand and noble figure the PM cuts, thundering down from his bully pulpit! Look at him there, with his well-tailored suit, his well-fed frame, his well-tanned face, as he denounces the mortal danger of opposing his enlightened rule and his holy cult. A man who sells arms in crooked deals to the misogynist, head-chopping religious extremists in Saudi Arabia. A man who sells arms to militant factions who force children into battle. A man who turned Libya into a terrorist-spawning chaos and did nothing to help restore it, who supports “moderate” Islamic extremists to keep the civil war churning in Syria, a man who sells off whole chunks of the nation’s security infrastructure to foreign powers … THIS is the man who denounces his opponents as a “national security threat.”
I knew the Tories and their string-pullers in the oh-so-patriotic right-wing media (a gaggle of non-doms, foreigners, porn merchants and tax-dodgers) would strike hard and low — no matter WHO Labour picked as leader. (Yes, we would have been seeing “Red Liz” or “Commie Cooper” or “Andy Anarchy in the UK” headlines this morning if the vote had gone another way. Don’t kid yourself.) But to see them go so low so quickly — with the Prime Minister himself regurgitating hysterical Tea Party bile in such a bald-faced fashion — is stunning.
I’ll say it again: this is vile. This goes beyond the rough-and-tumble of hardball partisan politics into the realm of hate speech and provocation. (If Corbyn is a “national security threat” — just like ISIS — shouldn’t he be “taken out”? If he — or the Labour Party in general — is a “threat to your family’s security,” shouldn’t some stalwart dad out there do “whatever it takes” to protect his little ones from this imminent danger? These are the sinister notions Cameron is feeding into the national psyche.)
Cameron — like Trump, whose followers are now beating up people who look like immigrants — is playing with fire here. And he knows it. And he doesn’t care. This message is a vile, shameful, morally putrid piece of filth

A curated selection of classics, rarities and unreleased tracks from the On-U Sound vaults by DJ & Audio Visual artist Trevor Jackson (aka Playgroup / Underdog), renowned for his Metal Dance compilations of industrial-dance on Strut Records, having worked with the likes of LCD Soundsystem and Four Tet via his Output Recordings Label, and a recently released acclaimed multi edition album of his own music (FORMAT) via the vinyl factory.
This is the electro-fried avant-garde side of On-U Sound. Whilst still containing the dub DNA that define Adrian Sherwood’s productions, these tracks document a period when this sonic vision was realised through saturated sheets of electronics, reverberating drum machines and extreme chopped-up tape edits.
Fully annotated with sleevenotes that tell the story behind each track. Features 3 completely unreleased tracks (inc. a crucial early cut by Neneh Cherry) and 6 tracks that have never been reissued on CD or digital (inc. the amazing debut recording by a pre-Massive Attack Shara Nelson)
Adrian Sherwood really was ahead of his time back then. Ten years to be exact. Albums released in 1981, for example, bore the imprint 'another 1991 on-u sound production'

Various - Hit Run !2" Records A & B sides (1979)
A little over two hours worth of a small selection of 12" vinyl releases A & B sides from Adrian Sherwood's Hit Run record label.
Adrian licensed the tracks on these vinyl releases for the U.K reggae market from various Jamaican record labels, Scorpio, Cry Tuff etc in 1979
Hit Run records was a relatively short lived project that eventually wound down for the birth of Adrian's On U Sound record label.
For the new On U Sound project Adrian himself oversaw and engineered all recording the sessions in London Studios like Berry Street and Southern Studios. Adrian used some of the same musicians and artists that he had dealt with bringing reggae music to Hit Run records, Bim Sherman, Prince Far I, Roots Radics and Creation Rebel etc.

The ultimate injustice one can commit to Aylan Kurdi and his family is to omit the parts of his story which explain why he ended up dead on the beach. The details matter. 1) Abdullah Kurdi, the father, was detained for 5 months in Air Force Intelligence in Damascus. While in detention, he was tortured and his teeth were pulled out. He had to sell his shop in Damascus in order to bribe the officers to let him out. This cost him 5,000,000 Syrian Liras (around $25,000) 2) After he bribed his way out of jail, Abdullah fled to Aleppo with his wife and sons, Alyan and Ghalib. The situation in Aleppo became dangerous due to the constant aerial bombardment, so he fled again to Kobani, his hometown. 3) When ISIS attacked Kobani last year, the family could no longer live in their hometown, so they fled to Turkey. Once in Turkey, the Turkish government did not provide them with assistance, so they paid almost $6,000 to secure 4 spots on a rubber dingy to the Greek island of Kos. 4) While on the boat, rough waters caused the boat to flip. The lifejackets they were given were fake. His sons and wife all drowned in front of his eyes, in his arms. 5) Kurdi had applied in June for refuge to Canada, but was rejected. After Aylan's photo became a media story, he was reportedly offered citizenship to Canada. But he doesn't want to go to Canada or Europe anymore. He says he will go bury his family in Kobani and stay there to fight against ISIS, because everything has been taken away from him and he has "nothing to live for."
