    i actually emailed him when I found the bluegrass-influenced "Old And In The Way" CD (Jerry Garcia, Peter Rowan, David Grisman, Vassar Clements, et al) a couple years back and saw that he had engineered the recording. Mentioned to him that it must have been a uniquely magical time down there in the bay during those years, and paid my respects to their creative accomplishments in that time. He wrote back, "Thanks for that. Cheers, Bear" We've lost a real maverick.
