Jah Wobble on the PIL reunion

“They did give me a call but nothing was right from the word go,” he tells me. “For me to do it, we’d have to do new things. And I wouldn’t choose a band like that, personally. I had a word with John, he phoned me, and he said at the time, it’s just three shows. I said, look, I dunno. We’d have to do new things and he sorta said, yeah, whatever. And I wasn’t sure, y’know.”

“So I got my people to talk to his people and very early on it was like, no, no, no, no. This is not good. Bad business. Not set up properly. Too rushed , for whatever reason. Not right, yeah?”

  2. John Lydon sucks so much now. this guy has ZERO integrity. after the Sex Pistol pastiche he now makes a Public Image come back without Wobble, Levene or even Atkins in the band. What a joke.
i hope this sad period where every fucking band from the past rejoin will be over soon.

Yeah, I have to agree but with one proviso...
I saw PIL back in 78 at the Christmas Day/Rainbow gig and caught a gig at The Paradiso in Am*dam (85?) and then a couple of years later here in Melbourne.
The gig at The Paradiso was one of the greatest gigs that I have ever seen and Lu and Bruce Smith are in this 'new' lineup. It could be good or it could be the biggest load of crap that you have ever seen. I think the major problem is that Lydon himself puts next to zero effort into anything these days...

  4. Think I was there when Wobble said this (in Brighton?)
He said for him to be involved in a reunion, it would have to be kick-started by recording a new album....A really far-out mad art rock thing! What a shame that's not going to happen!
Personally, I'm still waiting for something to bulldoze me the same way "Metal Box" did when I first heard it in '79. Nothing musically has had quite such an effect o me ever since.........

I think it is obviously what the Wob thinks (and who indeed can blame him?) From what I can gather this is from an interview done recently up north, where he lives with the guy whose blog I linked to, but he is also doing/or has just done a reading down at The Roundhouse, put on by an old friend of mine from london, and I wouldn't be at all surprised if he said/says the same thing again. Interesting though that PIL's drummer Bruce Smith (ex Pop Group & Wobble could well have crossed paths in some of Adrian Sherwood's early 80's dub experiments!)
    thanx for the comment.

  6. Ha ha ha! I don't live with Wobble! God forbid. He lives with his missus and kids in Cheshire and I live about 15 miles away in Manchester.

Got a few mates going to the gigs. Might ask them to get me a t-shirt ..

  7. Oops that is what happens when you forget a comma or something. Needless to say my proof reader's contract has been terminated with immediate effect! Being from Liverpool originally and hearing that Wobble was living 'oop north' I was quite surprised as back in the day he just seemed the ultimate Londoner!!!
I am aware of his domestic arrangements and I apologise to you both for such a slur on yr manly reputations, tho I am sure you would make a lovely couple LOL!!!

  8. Out of the the original PiL camp, Wobble is the most consistent bloke issuing solid releases. Atkins is alright if you are stuck in the industrial 90s heydey; and Levene? What a joke. Another reason to stay away from smack.

I don't think Levene has done smack for a long time, and let's face it ALL his best work was done (Metal Box) at the height of his addiction, so I think yr arguement is really out the window don't you!
