Paul Hartnoll - B. Traits Mix

Here's a mix I did for "Mixfluences" on B. Traits' show for BBC Radio 1. I could have gone back to industrial funk and new wave, but instead I decided to go for tracks that influenced me around the time I discovered house music 'til a few years after my success with "Chime". It was an interesting time, as it was very much a new art form made by beginners in the field all bouncing off of each other. The mix starts with The KLF from before "Chime", ending up with Hyper On Experience, whose influence showed up on Snivilisation.

The Kilburns made two albums, but they were both the same. The second one was to try and stop the first one coming out! In fact it didn't prevent them, because Warner Bros. Records waited until I had some success, and then they put out that album called Wotta Bunch
Ian Dury

A number of years ago I asked here at this blog if anyone had a copy of this 'lost' album by Ian Dury and someone just sent me a copy. I had this on vinyl back in the day but...originally recorded for Raft Records in 1974 it was finally released by Warner Brothers in 1977 to cash in on Dury's new found fame as a solo artist with Stiff. I think it's actually a much better album than 'Handsome' which was the Kilburn's official release, though apparently Dury was not happy with this at the time. The cover for Wotabunch also features a Kilburn's line up different to that which played on the album
