Recorded January 1974
The Kilburns made two albums, but they were both the same. The second one was to try and stop the first one coming out! In fact it didn't prevent them, because Warner Bros. Records waited until I had some success, and then they put out that album called Wotta BunchIan Dury
A number of years ago I asked here at this blog if anyone had a copy of this 'lost' album by Ian Dury and someone just sent me a copy. I had this on vinyl back in the day but...originally recorded for Raft Records in 1974 it was finally released by Warner Brothers in 1977 to cash in on Dury's new found fame as a solo artist with Stiff. I think it's actually a much better album than 'Handsome' which was the Kilburn's official release, though apparently Dury was not happy with this at the time. The cover for Wotabunch also features a Kilburn's line up different to that which played on the album
