Let it bleep!

    Who is going to be offended if 'Huckleberry Finn' uses the 'n'-word? Only people so totally *bleeping* stupid that they don't realise that it was written when 'n...' was considered the proper word to use to describe ex-slaves.

    I wish I was educated enough to compare Twain's work with that of Shakespeare or Chaucer... I'm SURE that they both used epithets that, nowadays, would cause consternation or whatever but they're respected works of literature.

    They should be allowed to stand 'as is' with, if necessary (say, if it were part of the national curriculum), a preface explaining that 'n'-words et al were generally considered acceptable back then but are not acceptable now.
