Vivien Goldman says
"The loss of Arri-Upp of the Slits is devastating not only for those like me who got to frolic and skank with her for three decades plus, but for music. A genuinely original free spirit, Arri at 14 showed us how to be a punk. In many ways, she was the soul of the movement, specially the Punky Reggae Party people. An incredible songwriter, lyricist and a conscious hurricane onstage. Miss you, sister."

ReplyDeleteHow did she die???
Aww, shit! Bad news to start the day...
ReplyDeleteI had hoped to see The Slits some day, too.
RIP Ari... condolences to Nora & John. :¬(
Just saw this news on Pathway - so sad - Ari was a ground breaker and a role model - we'll miss her.
ReplyDeleteThe first time I saw her was the White Riot tour in Edinburgh 1977 (banned in Glasgow!) The last time was what a couple of years ago here in Melbourne. If you are in the UK Gideon Coe will be playing Slits session trax on his show. Me I will dig out the sessions and get them up sometime soon.

The sessions are all over the net so have this instead...the later singles on Y/Human/CBS and their dubs, Live at Erics 1977 and a live version of 'In The Beginning' with Neneh Cherry on additional vocals.

PS: HerrB - you may want to add this into yr post.
