The Subterraneans - My Flamingo/Veiled Women

One time member of The Subterraneans Chrissie Hynde with then partner Nick Kent.
Various members of The Damned played gigs with Kent as The Subterraneans but from memory I am pretty certain that Henry Padovani played guitar on this single. The line "like a deaf mute in a phone booth" came from an interview Kent did with Lou Reed I also seem to recall.
See what sort of things I keep in my brain...
My thanx to Malcolm as this was one of my holy grails...
Get it

Her interview w/ Eno where he spent all his time trying to take photos up her skirt while she was interviewing him was priceless (for a 14 year old!) Remember also that Bob Geldof was a MM writer for a while pre punk!

  5. Just one other NK related thing, back in 1980 or so he claimed that he also played guitar on The Flaming Groovies 'Slow Death' which was totally denied by Cyril Jordan. Only Dave Edmunds can tell the truth about that...
Finally, there is another version of Vieled Women by Hermine Demoriene who was his girlfriend about this time. Her version was on an EP put out by Human Records. I was actually working at Bonaparte in KingX when they released that. (Bonaparte owned Human y'understand) but the last link is that Human's A&R man was Saul Galpern who I had actually gone to school with in Glasgow. He tried very hard trying to make the goth-punk scene big (Brigande ?!?) but will forever b known for the fact that he signed Simply Red to WEA or whoever...for that alone he should be put against a wall &...

  6. First time I came asross [!] Chrissie Hynde was singing backing vocals along with Sonja Kristina (Curved Air, ex Mrs Stuart Copeland) on Mick Farren's 'Vampire Stole My Lunch Money' album.
    But nice one for this.
I do like a connection, or two...

Know that album but didn't realise she was on it!
The Pretenders I saw on quite a few occasions when they first started, used to see CH at lots of the same gigs that I went too. Total infatuation! But the craziest was a Friday night gig at the small bar of Kentish Town Poly after 'Brass In Pocket' had been hyped into the charts. I was working in a chart return shop at the time and it was ridiculous the hyping that went on...) They kept their end by playing the gig but the place comfortably allowed what 200 people and I reckon there wld have been triple that. Crazy times.

PS: was nice of Malcolm to give us this I think you have to agree...
