Michael Jackson - Beat It (Demo)

As Jackson couldn’t fluently play any instruments, he would sing and beatbox out how he wanted his songs to sound by himself on tape, layering the vocals, harmonies and rhythm before having instrumentalists come in to complete the songs.
One of his engineers Robmix on how Jackson worked: “One morning MJ came in with a new song he had written overnight. We called in a guitar player, and Michael sang every note of every chord to him. “here’s the first chord first note, second note, third note. Here’s the second chord first note, second note, third note”, etc., etc. We then witnessed him giving the most heartfelt and profound vocal performance, live in the control room through an SM57. He would sing us an entire string arrangement, every part. Steve Porcaro once told me he witnessed MJ doing that with the string section in the room. Had it all in his head, harmony and everything. Not just little eight bar loop ideas. he would actually sing the entire arrangement into a micro-cassette recorder complete with stops and fills.”

Kalbata & Mixmonster - Congo Beat The Drum (Trailer)

Kalbata & Mixmonster went into their home studio in Tel Aviv, Israel with the purpose of recording a 100% analogue dub album in the spirit of the late King Tubby and the early dancehall era of the late 70s and early 80s. A 16-track tape machine and an old analogue mixing desk were their main instruments, with musicians playing live all throughout the album. A year after recording the instrumental backing tracks, they travelled to Kingston, Jamaica and started tracking down their favourite singers and deejays from days gone by. Featuring vocal contributions from Little John, Puddy Roots, Major Mackerel, Mutabaruka, Jah Thomas, Tullo T, Trinity, Echo Minott and Prince Jazzbo

Higgins in 3D - Mad Lifeline/WPIC

Massive Attack's Robert Del Naja aka 3D rejoins forces with TV on the Radio's frontman Tunde Adebimpe to create two epic electronic remixes of the singer's other outfit, Higgins Waterproof Black Magic Band.
The pair first collaborated on 2009's Massive Attack track 'Pray For Rain', and have kept in touch, swapping songs and ideas, resulting in these two remixes of tracks released on Higgins' self-titled debut EP.
Says 3D: "I constantly stalk Tunde with instrumentals! In revenge he sent me the Higgins album and I picked 2 tracks that I thought would be fun to remix. Now that’s sorted, I’ll get back to harassing him with loops.”
