Protoje - Kingston Be Wise

A short story based on the events of May 23rd, 2010, when the Jamaican government deployed its military into Tivoli Gardens in the capital city of Kingston.

Ey, ey
Watch ya dread
Hey hey
Kingston, be wise
Kingston, free up your mind
Kingston, just be wise
Kingston, free up the I, yeah
When the city a go click-clack-blow, you bet
Government fingers and tic-tac-toes in it
And while they working on the X's and O's
I'm living I-N-I like I'm Mister Kamoze
No surprise when they sending foes to me
Opposite of when plain clothes approaching me
Follow they rules is what they propose to me
Selling they souls for what is owed, you see
Nothing is owed, nothing is promised
Never know the government woulda run up inna them garrison
Without no sorry, without excuse
Soldier man inna them lorry, everybody get abused, and
Everybody have them views now
The media is owned so know where you get your news from
And the blood deh pon them shoes now
When them walking it trace
Look them hard in them face
And say
Kingston, be wise
Kingston, free up your mind
Kingston, just be wise, for me
Kingston, free up the violence
Now all the damage can't quantify
Roy Rayon couldn't sanctify
Say a nuff a dem them send fi die
So the city a intensify
Say the ghetto them a gentrify
Well I, nobody nuh identify
Nuff bodies unidentified and just a lie deh
Then where the gun deh? Dead pon Saturday
Buried Sunday like Solomon Grundy
Like a no Sons of Solomon them have down deh
Leonard Howell, Pinnacle and them land deh
Subdivision, them deal it underhand deh
So learn it 'cause them come back with dem plan deh
So tell me how far do you wanna go now, hey
'Cause them will ratta-tatta-tatta when u pow-pow-pow

GLISSANDO
It's been four long years since Glissando released the critically acclaimed With Our Arms Wide Open We March Towards the Burning Sea and the duo finally return this November with a new record The World Without Us. The 'Silent Bells' tour will be their first live shows in two years and the line-up of Elly May Irving and Richard Knox will be expanded to a quartet especially for these performances.
The new material bares Glissando's trademark of ethereal voices and tip-toing piano melodies but the overall sound is richer and more expansive. Epic swells of strings and guitars sore above the drones and field recordings to create an intense yet fragile noise. The dynamics of the new record are also apparent and through the use of an array of guests there is a new depth and ambition to Glissando that portrays the songs in their truest form.
The World Without Us is released November 5th on Limited Edition LP / CD / DL
FIELDHEAD
2010 saw Paul Elam depart the UK for Vancouver, Canada and there is no doubt that the vast Northern Canadian landscapes have influenced the new Fieldhead material. The familiar tape hiss, scratchy, decaying atmospheres remain in place but Elam and Elaine Reynolds (violin) have managed to sculpt a vaster, more expansive palate of sounds.
Previous comparisons of Fieldhead’s work have been made to the likes of William Basinski, The Caretaker and Grouper, which in truth are not far from the mark. It’s fair to say Elam has already stamped his name in the ambient / drone field with his previous outputs and forthcoming album a correction should further enhance his reputation as an artist who can seamlessly marry soundscapes and melody to form an enchanting, almost timeless piece of music.
a correction is released October 22nd on Limited Edition LP / DL
THE RUSTLE OF THE STARS
450km from the arctic circle, The Rustle of the Stars is a phenomenon of austere beauty, a barely audible noise that occurs when the draught from human breath causes multiple collisions among the ice micro-crystals in the air.
After meeting on tour in 2009 when their bands Glissando and FareWell Poetry played a show together in Paris, Richard Knox and Frederic D. Oberland quickly formed a friendship and a spirit that brought them together again and founded a desire to compose a record together. The concept of The Rustle of the Stars is built around a polar journey to the ends of the earth through the arctic sea.
Initially there was never any talk of playing the recorded material live but as interest in the vinyl-only release grew it felt right for the duo to attempt to recreate the sounds of the album in a live setting. They enlisted the help of Angela Chan, who performs most of the string sections found on the record and Lidwine to bring something different in the form of the harp. The results were beyond anything Richard and Frederic thought possible and the live shows have become an intense and at times desolate experience ranging from barely audible drifting melodies to foundation-shaking movements in sound.
The Rustle of the Stars was released May 7th on CD / DL

Please note that the line-up for each night of the tour will change order and will not be announced until the evening of the show.
