"What's going on in Iran, really?" Bill Clinton asked. "They have some ethnic differences there and some religious differences, but basically, this is about a government trying to deny the modern world. "And the idea is they just don't think they can keep control, if everybody gets to say what they really believe, and go where they really want, and be who they want to be," Clinton said, adding with a chuckle: "And they're right, right there."

Downtime/

A few words before I knock this on the head for a couple of hours (the bags of my eyes are needing bags!)
There are a number of things that I haven't mentioned here yet and the first is how young some of the basijis appear to be from accounts.
No more than 15 or 16 and absolutely ruthless as you would imagine when you get powerful weapons to play around with at that age.
Toys for boys indeed!
There are reports that they would lash out at anyone (male or female) who got in their way.

Which brings me to the video of the young girl dying that I chose NOT to post here.
It was shown by CNN but it was so pixilated that it was rendered meaningless.
If the film of her last seconds changes public opinion in Iran then she will not have died in vain.

If anyone does come across anything that they think I would be interested in then please email me at

I have been doing this blog completely by myself and yet have constantly over the last 4 days or so found images or stories sometimes hours before they turn up on some of the major player's sites and I have given The Huffington Post two exclusives in the last 36 hours, the first being the English translation of Khamenei's speech and then last night one of the first pictures from Tehran as the troubles started.
I obviously would like to thank Nico for linking back here on both of those occasions because there were a LOT of people following me as I posted those and the later stories...

But now I need to sleep for a couple of hours and recharge my batteries.

If you are interested in keeping up to date with what is happening then do keep an eye on the sites I mentioned a couple of posts previous to this.

We are proving that the mainstream media is absolutely redundant!

Back soon.

TehranBureau, which has been a useful source of reliable information, posts these unverified numbers: "Fatemiyeh Hospital Tehran: 30-40 dead as of 11pm; 200 injured. Police taking names of incoming injured."
@HuffPo

Update | 2:19 p.m. The video of a young woman who was reportedly killed in Tehran today has been uploaded to many Web sites and Facebook pages this afternoon. One of our readers comments:

Make special note of that unarmed innocent Girl shot and bleeding from her mouth, nose, eyes, ears…..hundreds of copies just went up on Youtube.

The tide of the ‘79 revolution was turned overnight by a similar front-page photo of a Soldier at point blank range shooting an un-armed protester.

Update | 1:45 p.m. CNN has aired a very graphic and disturbing video clip which was uploaded to YouTube and Facebook on Saturday, showing a young woman who has been shot, bleeding profusely. On both Facebook and YouTube, the horrific video comes with this explanation, written by someone who says that he was present when this video was shot and describes what it shows:

Basij shots to death a young woman in Tehran’s Saturday June 20th protests At 19:05 June 20th Place: Karekar Ave., at the corner crossing Khosravi St. and Salehi st. A young woman who was standing aside with her father watching the protests was shot by a basij member hiding on the rooftop of a civilian house. He had clear shot at the girl and could not miss her. However, he aimed straight her heart. I am a doctor, so I rushed to try to save her. But the impact of the gunshot was so fierce that the bullet had blasted inside the victim’s chest, and she died in less than 2 minutes. The protests were going on about 1 kilometers away in the main street and some of the protesting crowd were running from tear gass used among them, towards Salehi St. The film is shot by my friend who was standing beside me. Please let the world know.

Again, we have no way of knowing when or where the video was shot, or if this reader’s account is accurate, due to the intense restrictions on first-hand reporting imposed on the press inside Iran.

@TheLede

SEE YOU DIDN'T NEED ME TO UPLOAD IT AS YOU WILL ALL GET TO SEE IT!

IF IT IS THE CHANGING POINT FOR WHAT IS HAPPENING THEN SHE WILL NOT HAVE DIED IN VAIN!
