Lecture: Andrew Weatherall (Madrid 2011)

Andrew Weatherall has worn a lot of hats in his career: pop star producer, Balearic figurehead, trailblazing DJ, electronic experimentalist, peerless explorer of the minimal techno sound, rockabilly enthusiast, and the original remix champ. His history goes back to the beginning of the British acid house scene, to Shoom and Boy's Own. But it was through Primal Scream that Weatherall got his name indelibly marked in the history of pop culture: fusing narcotically challenged rock and the energy of early raves, he produced the band's generation-defining 'Screamadelica' album and went on to lend his signature remixing skills to other landmarks acts from My Bloody Valentine to St. Etienne. His collaborations with Keith Tenniswood (Two Lone Swordsmen) or Jagz Kooner and Gary Burns (Sabres Of Paradise) were only marginally less influential, whilst his more recent work has seen him take more and more inspiration from the rock 'n' roll music that he has harboured as a passion for all these years.
